Electrification and automation have been two of the conspicuous and emerging technological advances for ground vehicles. Furnished with the rapidly growing electric drive and onboard computational and communication technologies, ground transportation is in another dynamically evolving era where innovations are springing up for addressing the demands on vehicle efficiency, cleanliness, and safety. This talk introduces some recent trends on the automated and electrified vehicle technologies with an emphasis on how such technologies can be leveraged to further enhance their positive impacts on the energy, environmental, and driving safety concerns of the society. The roles of control systems in electrified and automated vehicles will be highlighted through several examples featuring synergistic combinations of control and optimization theories with physical insights into the vehicle system characteristics. Several other technologies for reducing ground vehicle energy consumptions and emissions will be briefly mentioned as well.


报告人简介:

Professor Junmin Wang joined Ohio State University and founded the Vehicle Systems and Control Laboratory (VSCL) in 2008. He was early promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in September 2013 and then very early promoted to Professor in June 2016. Prof. Wang has a wide range of research interests covering control, modeling, estimation, optimization, and diagnosis of dynamical systems, especially for automotive, vehicle, transportation, and sustainable mobility applications.  Prof. Wang’s research contributions embrace the development of control and estimation methods that advance efficiency, cleanliness, and driving safety of conventional and electrified vehicles. He has five years of industrial research experience (2003-2008) at Southwest Research Institute (San Antonio, Texas).  Dr. Wang is the author or co-author of more than 240 peer-reviewed publications including 116 journal articles and 11 U.S. patents. Prof. Wang is an IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Distinguished Lecturer, SAE Fellow, and ASME Fellow. Dr. Wang serves as an Senior Editor, Editor, Technical Editor, or Associate Editor for the IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IFAC Control Engineering Practice, IFAC Mechatronics, ASME Transactions Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control, and SAE International Journal of Engines. He has served as Chair of the ASME Automotive and Transportation Systems Technical Committee, Chair of the SAE International Control and Calibration Committee, and Vice Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee on Mechatronic Systems. Prof. Wang is a recipient of Ohio State University Harrison Faculty Award for Excellence in 2015, NSF CAREER Award in 2012, SAE International Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award in 2012, Ohio State University Lumley Research Award in 2012, SAE International Vincent Bendix Automotive Electronics Engineering Award in 2011, Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program (ONR-YIP) Award in 2009. Prof. Wang has a multi-disciplinary education background in mechanical, electrical, and automotive engineering. He received the B.E. degree (with honors) in Automotive Engineering and his first M.S. degree in Power Machinery and Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing China in 1997 and 2000, respectively; his second and third M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Texas at Austin in 2007.
