The Institute of Aerospace Technology of Southeast University is affiliated to the School of Mechanical Engineering of Southeast University. It has two research platforms, one provincial and one ministerial: Key Laboratory of Structure and Thermal Protection for High-Speed Aircraft, Ministry of Education and the Engineering Research Center of Aerospace Machinery of Jiangsu Province. The center conducts discipline construction and personnel training by relying on the two first-class disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. Currently, the center has 15 full-time teachers, including one Distinguished Young Scholar of China, one New Century Outstanding talent of the Ministry of Education, one Distinguished Young Scholar of Jiangsu province, three Outstanding Youths of Jiangsu province, two Top Six Talents in Jiangsu Province, and one Blue Engineering Talent in Jiangsu Province, as well as over 50 postgraduate students. The authors have diverse professional backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, aerospace, mechanics, and materials science. In recent years, extensive and systematic research has been conducted on thermal protection technology for high-speed aircraft, lightweight structural technology, variable aircraft technology, structural electromagnetic compound technology, power technology for space equipment, advanced testing technology for space equipment, and major engineering applications. The research findings have been implemented in the development of various types of space equipment in China.

The center has undertaken over 50 projects, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Major Science and Technology Special Basic Theoretical Projects, National Major Science and Technology Special Key Technology Research, National Natural Science Foundation. Additionally, it has completed over 100 key technology research projects related to aerospace machinery and equipment. A system for achieving aerospace machinery equipment has been established, consisting of theoretical methods, key technologies, and special software. The author has published over 200 papers in SCI/EI journals such as AIAA Journal, ASME Journal, Aeronautical Journal, and Astronautical Journal. Additionally, they have been granted over 70 invention patents and registered more than 30 software copyrights. He was awarded the first prize for Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province, the first prize for Science and Technology Progress by the China Instrumentation Society, and the second prize for Science and Technology Progress by both GF and JD.

Talent cultivation

The laboratory has established cooperative relations with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, Aero Engine Corporation of China, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and other aerospace research institutions. These relationships are based on mutual benefit and shared goals. Encourage international and domestic academic exchanges, including teachers and students studying abroad, participating in short-term exchanges, and attending international academic conferences. Northwestern University, New York University, Virginia Tech University, Clemson University, University of Alabama, University of Leuven in Belgium, and Monash University in Australia are among the well-known foreign universities with which we have established academic exchange and cooperation relations. All doctoral research students have overseas exchange experience, and some master's students pursue doctoral degrees abroad.

All doctoral graduates from the center have pursued further studies at universities, including Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Forestry University, and Technical University of Munich, both domestically and abroad. Most master's students work in large state-owned enterprises, central enterprises, and aerospace institutions, including 14 CLP, 702 CSIC, 10 Aerospace First Academy, 509 Aerospace Eighth Academy, 301 AVIC, and SAIC.
