Industrial Engineering (IE) is a discipline formed by the intersection of engineering technology and management science. It aims to reduce costs, improve quality, and increase production efficiency. It comprehensively applies specialized knowledge and techniques from natural and social sciences, combined with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, to study the planning, design, implementation, improvement, and innovation of complex systems.

The Industrial Engineering major emphasizes the cultivation of students’ IE thinking and consciousness, highlights the mastery and application training of IE principles and methods, and through the study of management, engineering economics, operations research, system engineering basics, applied statistics, basic industrial engineering, human factors engineering, quality and reliability, facility planning and logistics analysis, production planning and control, and other courses, enables graduates to engage in system planning design, analysis evaluation, operation control, management decision-making, and improvement innovation work in manufacturing, service industry, research institutes, and government agencies. The Industrial Engineering major has established a logistics information management laboratory and a supply chain integration laboratory for logistics training, providing a foundation for the work of logistics experiments, teaching, and scientific research.

The Industrial Engineering discipline currently has 12 teachers, including 2 professors, 8 associate professors, and 60% of the teachers have overseas experience. The main research directions of this discipline include: manufacturing system modeling and simulation technology, quality and reliability engineering, human factors engineering, logistics system planning and layout, product digital integrated development technology, production planning and control, and enterprise informatization, etc.

In recent years, the Industrial Engineering Department has undertaken and completed more than 70 projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, National Science and Technology Bureau projects, Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Tackling projects, and corporate cooperation projects. It has published more than 10 textbooks and monographs, published hundreds of papers in domestic and foreign core journals and international conferences, obtained 13 invention patents, and gradually formed a teaching and research system with its own characteristics.
