Biography

DaphneFlynn, Professor of Monash, directs the Design Health Collab and co-leads theFuture Healthcare initiative, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration acrossacademia, healthcare, community, government, and industry. Spanning threedecades in industrial design at international organizations, she possesses awealth of expertise that drives meaningful innovation in commercial sectors.Transitioning seamlessly from industry to academia, Daphne leverages herextensive experience to spearhead translational research at the Design HealthCollab. She champions a people-centred design ethos, exploring deeply into the development of influentialglobal healthcare services and products.  Her commitment to integrating theory with hands-on experience is evidentin her efforts to innovate and collaborate for a holistic healthcare future.

Design for health is a growing area of research which is led by DesignHealth Collab at Monash University. Our practice as designers is evolving as wetackle complex healthcare challenges by using design as a strategic tool. TheDesign Health Collaborative Lab is at the forefront of design research incomplex health ecosystems. The lab currently focuses on product design andwearables, service and system design, communication and user experience, designadvocacy and commercialization.This years Melbourne Design Weekprovided an opportunity to showcase a curated selection of key pieces from thelast ten years of health design from Monash University. They were selectedbecause of their real world application - they are solutions that are in theworld - being used - or in the process of being implemented.I willpresent an overview of the work of the lab, Health by Design at MelbourneDesign week and the interdiscipinary ambition of Future Healthcare.
